This week I spoke to one of my friends. We were together in college. One of the people I consider not driven by expectations. These are professional expectations. I believe that having a nursing education does not mean one has to work in the hospital.
Meet Comfort Chizinga. Comfort works with YONECO as the Linkages Coordinators.
Recent outcry in the nursing community has been the lack of employment. Much as this is true I feel that the cry is not so much that people actually want to work in public hospitals but most of it is lack of perspective of how much a nursing degree can do outside the hospital.
“ I believe in nursing school we learn a whole bunch of different things, When I went for interviews we were 11 nurses they wanted 3 on different posts, do you know why they took me for the highest post? I told them I am a goal getter. With or without experience I guarantee best results because I have a little of everything.” Comfort Chizinga.
If Comfort did not use to the best of her ability the skills she got from her nursing education she would not have such a high post in her early stages of her career. The broad approach nursing education takes in Malawi is an advantage. Taking on this example, People should redesign and plan life differently from how they pictured it to be after graduation. This might come as a hard truth but if taken seriously it can change someone’s life.
It’s not always luck that brings opportunities to you, often times you have to show you are capable. Start doing something with the little of everything you have, even without pay.
