After a year of work in Critical Care I motivated more than ever. Critical Care approach is more than a battle to be prioritised, it is a school of thought. From a research perspective there is a lot that needs to be done in the field. We need more specialist nurses, more units to take care of the critically ill. From a clinical nurse perspective, I can afford a smile of the changes being implemented in the field however not enough and definitely not fast enough. From a human perspective I am troubled that we have many people still dying when we can save them with simple interventions if we just change our focus to this particular field.
In this one year working on the CRIPSOS project I have seen we have more patients in need of Intensive care than the capacity we have to take care of them. I have also seen the huge gaps in care from Intensive Care to High dependency care to general wards. Our Agenda has been simple, ABC for everyone who needs it, exactly when they need it. This dream is possible. I have also seen there so many improvements that can be made in this field by just changing our routines. The thought of this gives me a smile, because we know, we don’t need resources to change how we work.
Our work has been RESEARCH, CLINICAL, HEALTH SYSTEMS. I am thankful for the amazing team and support we receive from all the people who take responsibility in our projects. Tim Baker, Carl Otto Schell, Thomson Mbewe, Wezzie Mwafulirwa , Odala Kamandani, and the entire ICU small working group in QECH. There are many more I cannot mention here. Special thanks to Life Support Foundation for the financial support.
We will stop not here. Our aims and goals are to take this dream across the country and the globe. We believe collaboration is one of the important keys to development. So we always encourage people to join us in this pursuit.
I am happy to be here, and happier as the second year begins.
And yes, We had a cake it was lovely.
